Prior Learning Credit (PLC)

Prior Learning Credit (PLC)

You might be able to build towards a degree by having prior learning recognized for academic credit, a process frequently referred to as “Prior Learning Credit (PLC)", once the learning is recognized by an institution. Please refer to the admissions tab of each degree for specific program details and ways you may be able to save time and tuition with PLC. Each university determines the number of pre-approved credits that may count towards the degree requirements according to institutional policies.

University Certificates

In addition to recognizing non-traditional education—such as content from organizations like IBM, Meta, and Google—for prior learning credit, some degree programs allow learners to enroll in a for-credit University Certificate. The content of these certificates is often identical to that of the related degree program, and if a learner is later accepted into the corresponding degree program, their completed certificate credit can apply toward the degree. If a learner chooses not to continue with the related degree program, they still earn a valuable for-credit credential that can enhance their resume and demonstrate their expertise in the field.

Prior Learning Credit (PLC) Degrees

The below degree programs from Illinois Tech, University of London, Ball State, UNT, University of Leeds, and Heriot-Watt, may offer an opportunity to have learning recognized as prior learning credit that may count towards a related degree once you are accepted and enrolled.

Take advantage of certain programs where you may be able to save time and money on your degree by taking Specializations or Professional Certificates from organizations like IBM, Google, Meta. Once completed, you may be able to have your learning recognized for credit when you are admitted and enrolled in a related degree program.

Interested?  After you complete the certificates,  a prior learning credit evaluation may be necessary for the certificates you completed. Please note that an additional exam may also be required for certain certificates. Each institution determines the number of credits (if any), earned by completing content, that may count towards the degree requirements according to institutional policies, which may consider any existing credits you may have.
